The 5000 series aluminum (Al-Mg alloys) are non-heat-treatable wrought alloys strengthened by cold working (strain hardening). These alloys combine excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in marine and humid environments, with good weldability, moderate strength, and good ductility.
Common alloys in this series include 5052, 5083, 5005, 5754, 5083, which find extensive use in shipbuilding, vehicle bodies, pressure vessels, architecture, and storage tanks.
YUQI Metal offers 5000 series aluminum in forms of coils, sheets, and plates, supporting custom thickness, width, temper, surface finish (anodized, painted, embossed), and cutting/fabrication.

Excellent Corrosion Resistance — Among non-heat-treatable series, 5000 series is especially robust in marine, coastal, humid, or chemically aggressive environments.
Good Weldability — Supports MIG, TIG and other common welding methods, maintaining strength and corrosion resistance.
Strong Yet Lightweight — Enhanced strength through Mg alloying combined with low density yields excellent strength-to-weight ratio.
High Formability — Can undergo bending, drawing, stamping, shaping; suitable for parts requiring deformation.
Wide Application Spectrum — From marine hulls, tanks, and ship structures to architectural panels, vehicle bodies, and chemical containers.
Customizable & Processable — You can get custom sizes, embossing, coating, cutting, and fabrication services from YUQI.
Reliable Packaging & Exporting — Ensures safe transport and protection during shipment, reducing damage or corrosion risk.
Marine & Shipbuilding — Hulls, decks, superstructures, offshore platforms (e.g. 5083, 5086).
Transport & Automotive — Body panels, trailer sides, bus panels, fuel tanks.
Architectural & Construction — Facades, roofing, curtain walls, exterior wall panels.
Storage & Pressure Vessels — Chemical tanks, water tanks, storage containers.
Industrial Equipment — Heat exchangers, machine covers, frames.
Decorative & Coated Panels — Anodized or painted exterior panels, signage, display panels.
Characteristics: Part of the Al-Mg series with relatively low magnesium (≈0.5-1.1 %) and chromium additions. Has good atmospheric corrosion resistance and moderate strength.
Forms: Supplied as sheet, plate, and coil in architectural and structural uses.
Comparison to 5052: 5005 and 5052 share many traits but differ in magnesium content and mechanical strength.
Typical Applications: Roofing, siding, architectural trim, decorative panels, interior wall panels.
Advantages: Excellent surface finish for decorative applications, good corrosion resistance in atmospheric exposure, suitable for coated or painted architectural surfaces.

Characteristics & Physical Properties:
- Chemical composition: Mg ~2.2-2.8 %, Cr ~0.15-0.35 %.
- Non-heat-treatable; strengthened by cold work (H tempers).
Application: Ideal in marine, automotive, electronics, signage, and structural sheet-metal work. Its good corrosion resistance in saltwater makes it common in marine parts, fuel tanks, hull sheets, and HVAC components.
Advantages: Balanced strength + corrosion resistance, good weldability, ability to produce tread-plate (checker plate) forms, good ductility for forming.

Characteristics: A high-Mg Al-Mg alloy (Mg ~4.0–4.9%) with traces of Mn, Cr. Among non-heat-treatable alloys it has one of the highest strengths. Highly resistant to seawater corrosion and industrial chemicals.
Forms: Available in sheet, coil, plate, including medium-thickness and super-wide plates.
Typical Applications:
- In shipbuilding, civil structures, automotive, aircraft skin, pressure vessels, defense components, cryogenic applications.

A1: The high magnesium content gives it superior corrosion resistance, especially against saltwater attack, making it ideal for ship, offshore, and coastal structures.
A2: No. They are non-heat-treatable alloys. Strength must be achieved through cold working (strain hardening) rather than thermal processes.
A3: 5052 is very common for its balance of formability and corrosion resistance. 5083 and 5086 are marine-grade for high corrosion and structural requirements. 5005 is often used in decorative architecture.
A4: Yes. We support custom widths/lengths, cutting, embossing/patterning, anodizing or coating, bending and fabrication per project needs.
A5: High magnesium content 5000 series alloys can weaken in prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures (above ~100–150 °C), and may be susceptible to stress corrosion at higher temperatures.
